Dance
After Manuel Baldemor’s photo, Anino
Shadow on wall gliding between
Concrete and permeable void.
The rhythm marks itself:
Mime mimic do it again repeat.
Hide and seek slide and slip:
Dance is the rhyme and reason
Round the seasons: We sow
And reap: Thirst and feast: Whisper
Of raindrops. Clap of thunder.
Leaves tremble in the breeze.
Black umbrella shelters the face
Of absolute repose. The name
Of the rose. Sangfroid. Mouth
Stops at intake of breath. Nothing
Settles. Galaxies tumble and drift.

Planets align. Orbits intersect.
It pours asteroids and hailstones.
It rains Perseids and comets.
Was it time’s hiccup? Was it
The last heartbeat? All is riddle
Of the visible and the vague.
Dance makes the music.
Death plays hide and seek:
Slide and slip: Snide and sleek.
Mime mimic do it again
Repeat: The rhythm moves
The feet: Never skips a beat.
