And so we stretch our sea legs

And inscribe our marine legends

Upon our little memory of beaches.

Neither Argonaut nor historian,

Marauder or migrant among sank

Land bridges between islands

And mainlands, we are only thieves

Shaving small change from the swirling

Commerce of provenance and memory,

The origin that forever eludes us.
